Words can still move the world
I am J. H. Irwin, a writer and storyteller. I started Still Human because so much of modern life seems built to pull us apart: faster, louder, more automated, more certain of itself, and lonelier for all of it.
Still Human is where I push back, one essay at a time. I write about memory and aging, about identity and belonging, about living openly as a gay man, and about the quiet work of staying kind in a culture that rewards outrage. The pieces come from a life I have lived, including the harder seasons, which taught me most of what I understand about empathy.
This is not a publication about having the answers. It is about paying attention: noticing what we are at risk of losing, and deciding what is worth holding onto.
If you believe a thoughtful essay can still change how someone sees their day, you are in the right place.
Words can still move the world. These are mine.
